of police searching door to door, floor to floor for the 19-year-old dzhokhar tsarnaev. he escaped after an overnight gun battle, which left his older brother dead. police in the suburb of watertown, massachusetts say they're recovering a significant amount of home made explosives at the scenes of last night's violence. and they also say there is no proof yet, repeat, no proof yet of accomplices. a u.s. official says the latest intelligence shows at least as of now no indications the suspects had any direct links to a major al qaeda group or any of its affiliates. let's get the very latest now on the manhunt and the investigation. our national correspondent susan candiotti is joining us. update our viewers here in the united states and around the world, susan, on what we know right now. >> reporter: well, certainly, wolf. the investigation and the search for what happened to the young man we've been calling suspect number two, the younger tsarnaev, has not ended by any stretch of the imagination. they've been working ever since the violence began last night, ever since the manhunt began.

, the one they are still trying to find now, dzhokhar tsarnaev was born in kyrgyzstan. his family lives in russia and we're told his father was a public official there at one time. the reason we're told for this extraordinary security in the area of watertown is, of course, because they still don't know where the other of the two brothers, the second bomber is located. they think they know where he is. they believe that's the place they have surrounded and where you just saw kerry sanders reporting but there's a further concern that these two brothers may have had af coccomplices an authorities found another bomb in boston. a device in the charles gate area. they rendered it safe but they are concerned there maybe accomplices. they can't be certain of it. but there's a concern there maybe accomplices at large. you put all of those factors together, and we're told that's the reason for the extraordinary security. there's been a report that one accomplice tried to escape on a train to connecticut. that the train was stopped. we believe now that this is not the case. savannah? >> pete will

tsarnaev is dead. suspect number two, dzhokhar tsnaraev, his younger brother, age 19, still unaccounted for. jennifer griffin is live with our national security view on this from our bureau in washington, d.c. we're told they have ties to chechnya. that they could be russian- born but chechnya according to their ethnicity. they spent some time there at least at a younger age, jennifer. what more do we have on that? >> reporter: that is really interesting. when i heard of the name of the younger one, the one with the white cap who is still on the loose, the name dzhokar was very familiar to me. the dzhokar dudivey first president of chechnya was killed. had a violent death by the russians when he used his satellite phone, two missiles came out of the sky and killed him. i remember being in lebanon at the time and remember when he was killed, he was killed in chechnya on april 21st, which of course is coming up this weekend, this sunday. that made me think if these two are chechen nationalists in some way, dzhokar dudiav, dzhokhar tsnaraev accused of planting the boston marathon bomb, that is
